Teaching Primary Learners.
The image above puts it clearly. Children this age enjoy learning by doing, by involving their whole-self into discovery activities. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my world!!
I've been teaching English to primary learners for the las 18 years and cherish each and every experience I've lived with these lovely explorers, always eager to know, to learn, and to share their knowledge with you.
On this occasion, I was assigned two groups of 5th graders from Instituto Marcelo Spínola in Caleta Olivia. These students were at an elementary level. Before my arrival, they had been working around the topic of food, identifying countable and uncountable nouns, expressing quantities and talking about what they have or haven't got in their cupboard at home.
Since their teacher, Ms. Mónica, wanted to introduce students to healthy eating habits, I followed a simplified CLIL approach to teach (and learn) about nutrition. The experience was better than I expected. As usual, I was extremely nervous and unsure about my performance teaching these groups a topic from the Science field. But everything went along nicely...

The Plans
Ss watched the following video during our third encounter:
Moure primary 5thgrade_lesson_plan4_week2 - 10 from Regina Moure
The group worked so well that I thought about the possibility of posing another challenge for them to deal with. Once again, it mainly consisted in having Students watching a video created by American English native speakers singing about food groups and how to make a healthy plate.
Unfortunately, time constraints did not allow me to try doing this, but I still believe it could have been a good way to wrap up the topic.
Below, you may watch the video and listen to this catchy song performed by nurse students from Duke University - School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina (USA):
